Hey everyone! Its been a minute since I've last hopped on here and it's been for a good reason... We bought a house! We've been fighting to get this house since late august and were finally able to go to closing and be handed the keys in mid November! We have definitely had our hands full renovating and turning this house into everything we've dreamed of!
What's so funny to me is 4 months ago when I came across this 1920s farm house with an all pink 70s bathroom and no kitchen floor I sent it to my husband jokingly. We'd been house searching since early 2020 but with the pandemic and the correlating housing market spike we had been super unsuccessful. But my husband looked past the work and cosmetic issues with this old fixer upper i found and saw the potential so we got to work! We put in our bid... and after a week of being told not to get our hopes up that we would definitely be outbid we got the call that we were chosen!
The entire home buying process for this house was a roller coaster. It felt like every single day I was getting calls that heightened the odds stacked against us. "We're having trouble with your loan" "This house needs so much deed work it's going to cost 1000s" "your title company isn't willing to take on the project they dropped you" and so so many more. But our amazing mortgage group, realtor, and definitely someone up above really pulled a miracle and we finally came out on the other side!
From the beginning there was something just drawing us to this property. Maybe it was the massive Lilac bushes (which were my grandmother's favorite) growing in the front garden, or the beautiful 200 year old trees growing down the driveway, or all of the hidden treasures in the woods for the kids to explore, but this house was made for us! A little bit of history on this property... the house that stands now was built in 1920 but the original house was built in the mid 1800s. This property has only had two previous owners despite it being more than 100 years old and has always been a family home. There is a railroad just past the back of our property line and the kids are so excited to get to see the train go by for the first time. And we found an entire upstairs that just doesn't have stairs built to it... hello home office.
We are only 1 month in and have already accomplished so much with this house and we are so so excited to keep working and turn this into our forever home. A place where our children and grandchildren will always be able to come back to. Let me know if you guys are interested in some renovation, diy, or just general updates. And as always Thankyou so much for reading along!
